And yet another year comes to its end

Sunday, December 31st, 2006

Christmas sure was a pleasant break for me. It’s always nice to see the family, relatives and to gorge on food for a couple of days. But as soon as I got back home, I put myself on a diet. Being sick for such a long time put some fatty pounds on me and my lungs just don’t like it – and neither do I. Keeping oneself below 8% body fat isn’t just for looks, it’s more about your health and wellbeing.

Anyway, I’ve been back to the gym for about 16 days now, with a short break of five days during Christmas. Since my lungs can’t provide enough oxygen to get me through a full body workout or even an upper-body and lower-body split, I have to keep the volume pretty low by splitting it up further. And in doing so, I’ve choose to split the training sessions into the classic pushing-, pulling-, and quad dominant and hip dominant movements.

Usually I don’t train for more than two days in a row, but since the volume is low and it’s a three day split, I’ll keep it simple with three days on and one day off.

I guess that’s it for now. I just finished watching UFC 66 a few hours ago and I think I’ll enjoy Pride Otoki Matsuri (aka Shockwave) next – a perfect way to end 2006.

I’ll get back to writing more informative stuff in the blog during next year.

Until then, take care and a Happy New Year!

Back in business – summing up the fall

Saturday, December 16th, 2006

First off, I’d like to apologize for the lack of updates. I’ve been down with sinusitis and pneumonia which triggered an old and sleeping virus in my salivary glands. My own training has been close to non-existent for 10 weeks and work has been very hard due to continuous headaches and severe lack of sleep.
As of now, I’m still recovering from the virus and I’m slowly getting back to the gym. I’m also catching up on work and assignments, so for the moment being, I do not accept any new clients (unless you sign up with our competition team).

So what’s happened in the last couple of months? Although I’ve been knocked out of my socks, it’s been a pretty hectic fall. Competition wise we’ve had the Swedish Nationals (October 7-8), the Nordic Championships (21-22 October), Decembercupen (December 2) and Fitnessfestivalen (December 9-10). As for me, I attended all of them with the exception of Decembercupen (I had to preserve energy for Fitnessfestivalen).
During the Nationals I worked as photographer for BODY Magazine and during the Nordic Championships I was invited (VIP) and the only work I did was helping the Swedish Federation with putting the results online from my hotel room. It was actually the first competition I’ve been to in six or seven years without working (either as coach, photographer, writer or both.) That was a nice break!

All in all, our team did very well in all competitions during the fall and mainly so because of my partner and the founder of Team reFORM; Fredrik Carlsson. Although he has been sick with an bacterial infection (the same I had) for more than eight weeks, he managed to place 3:rd in the Lucia Classic competition during Fitnessfestivalen – and that while also working his ass off with his store and the competition team. Just amazing! The infection hindered him from entering in ultra ripped condition, but he still had the best symmetry and flex on stage.
Besides coaching Fredrik during Fitnessfestivalen, I also had the privilege to operate the TV-control room during Luciapokalen (both the preliminaries and the finals). That was actually the first time I’d been in a control room. And after going through the event schedule with Ove Rytter and a quick five-minute introduction with a technician, I was in control of three TV-cameras and the cutting board. Need I say it was great fun?

I’ve also been contracted as an expert advisor and writer for Stadium; the largest sport equipment chain store in Scandinavia – with more than one hundred stores spread over Sweden, Finland and Denmark. As far as articles goes they’ll be targeted for active people and you’ll be able to read them in their magazine (by customer subscription) and on their website during next year. There’s also some other cool projects in the works which I’m involved in, so keep an eye on their website!

Well, that pretty much sums it up. As of this week, I’m also working on a complete new website for the Swedish Federation. And yeah, I also started studying the Japanese language.

Until next time, sayounara!
